The city of Bamenda, in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, faces critical public health needs exacerbated by rapid urban growth, insecurity, and population displacement. Major challenges include a high prevalence of malaria, insufficient access to safe drinking water and sanitation, shortages of healthcare workers and essential medical supplies, and limited maternal and child health services. There are also growing concerns about non-communicable diseases and mental health, all within the context of fragile epidemiological surveillance systems. This mission aims to strengthen integrated health programs in Bamenda, focusing on health system reinforcement, disease prevention, and infrastructure rehabilitation.

The 'Tech & Community: Bamenda To The World' initiative aims to transform Bamenda into a regional hub for inclusive digital innovation. It supports local technology solutions, such as Shisong Connect and ChopDirect, to improve healthcare services and agricultural processes. Key challenges include a lack of digital skills, limited internet connectivity, and inadequate infrastructure. This mission seeks to strengthen the ecosystem by developing skills, expanding networks, and providing access to funding for young entrepreneurs and local tech startups.

The PASENIE Phase 2 program, launched in January 2026, aims to support 150 young entrepreneurs in Bamenda through grants and technical assistance. Your role will be to provide one-on-one mentoring to help these young people overcome challenges such as lack of capital, gaps in business management skills, and limited market access.

These initiatives, led by the municipality and civil society organizations such as SHUMAS, include public clean-up days, community mobilization, and awareness-raising activities in schools and public spaces. While these campaigns are essential for reducing waste accumulation and promoting responsible waste management, they face challenges such as a lack of equipment and sustainable funding. Strengthening cooperation with international partners, including the diaspora, is therefore crucial to optimizing collection systems, introducing recycling solutions, and ultimately creating a cleaner and healthier Bamenda.

The city of Bamenda faces significant challenges regarding youth integration, including high unemployment, limited access to quality vocational training, and concerning school dropout rates, particularly in vulnerable communities. This mission aims to support and strengthen existing municipal programs to improve access to quality education, develop practical skills, and promote youth employment. This includes support for school infrastructure, educational resources, vocational training centers, scholarship programs, and youth entrepreneurship initiatives.

The city of Bamenda, Cameroon, faces significant challenges related to poverty, marked by high unemployment, particularly among young people and women, and a heavy reliance on informal activities. The Northwest region is especially vulnerable due to economic instability and recent crises. This mission aims to support the municipal poverty reduction program by strengthening existing initiatives and developing new opportunities. Activities will include developing income-generating activities, implementing targeted vocational training, and supporting local entrepreneurship, particularly in agriculture and small businesses. Emphasis will be placed on improving access to microfinance and credit for women and young entrepreneurs. The mission will seek to strengthen partnerships between local authorities, NGOs such as Caritas Bamenda, SHUMAS, HOFNA Cameroon, and Livelihood NGOs, and the diaspora to maximize impact.
